Found out my property taxes jumped 18% this year from a neighbor, not the city

I was chatting with my neighbor down the street in Mill Woods last weekend and he mentioned his taxes went up a lot. I checked my own assessment online and sure enough, mine went from $3,400 to $4,020 with no notice from the city at all. Has anyone else had to dig through the city website just to find out their tax increase?

Hmm, that sucks but 18% isn't exactly crazy. The city probably sent a notice to your old address or it got buried in junk mail. I wouldn't lose sleep over it yet.

You know, I actually thought the same way until I had it happen to me. I missed a 15% fee from my HOA because they emailed the notice and it went straight to spam. Ended up costing me way more than 18% after late fees piled on for three months. So yeah, I used to brush stuff like this off too, but now I double check every single notice, even the ones that seem small.
