Rented a townhouse in Oliver instead of buying a condo - best call I made

I was dead set on buying a 1-bedroom condo downtown Edmonton, had my eye on a place near the LRT for like 3 months. Then my realtor sat me down and showed me the numbers on condo fees plus my max budget. I shifted and rented a townhouse in Oliver instead for $1,450 a month, and honestly it's been way better. No surprise assessments popping up, I can actually have my dog, and I'm not stuck if the market tanks. The space is bigger too, got a small yard and a basement for storage. Anyone else ditch buying for renting in Edmonton and find it worked out?

Oh totally, you know what made me really get it? My friend Emily bought a cute little bungalow three years ago and thought she scored a deal.
