I managed to splice solid and stranded wire without issues.
Working on an old fan, I had to join solid and stranded wires. Pre-twisting with pliers before capping made the connection secure and easy. How do you handle these types of splices in your projects?

Actually, that method often fails under vibration - solder or crimp connectors work much better.

Ugh, this reminds me of my friend's old car. He tried that twist-and-tape method for some stereo wires and it was a mess. After a few months of normal driving vibrations, the whole thing just came loose and his dash went quiet. Perry.river is totally right, you really need that solid crimp or solder to hold up when things are shaking around.

Totally get what you're saying about vibration. But everyone forgets about heat under the dash. It gets crazy hot in there on a sunny day. That cheap tape just gets gooey and slides right off. Even a crimp can loosen up if the metal parts get hot and cold over and over. A good solder job is the only thing that really fights off both the shaking and the baking.
