Rant: The three-way switch in that old farmhouse took me a full Saturday to trace out.

Turns out someone had tied the travelers to the neutral in the attic junction box. Anyone else run into a hidden splice that just killed a day?

Yeah, always check the attic box first.

Totally agree with @andrew916, old wiring is a real puzzle. Found a junction box once where they just twisted the hot and ground together with electrical tape. That was a fun afternoon.

Honestly losing one Saturday to a weird splice doesn't seem that bad. Old houses are full of surprises like that. At least you found it and didn't burn the place down.
