Showerthought: That week in August with the hospital job was a nightmare

Honestly, I got called in to fix some emergency lighting at a hospital downtown. It was supposed to be a two day thing, but ended up taking five days because the old wiring was a mess from the 1970s. We found like six hidden junction boxes behind drywall that nobody had on any blueprint. The whole time, the nurses were rushing us because they needed those lights for a surgery wing. I pulled 18 hour shifts one day just to get it done. Has anyone else run into old commercial jobs where the prints are just completely wrong?

Five days sounds rough but that 1970s wiring isn't the real problem. The prints being wrong is actually more common than people think, especially in hospitals that get renovated every ten years. They do those renovations in phases and nobody updates the master set of blueprints. You probably pulled that 18 hour shift because the original installers didn't leave any pull string in the conduit either.
