Called in a favor from an old buddy to save a $600 TV board
Had a Samsung that kept shutting off after 10 minutes, thought it was the power supply but turned out to be a bad capacitor on the main board. A guy I used to work with at a shop in Austin soldered in a new one for a six pack, and it's been running perfect for three days now. Anyone else got a go-to person for those board-level fixes you just can't do yourself?

My uncle fixed my dishwasher control board with a paperclip and some solder once...

Knew a guy back in Denver who kept his oven alive for three years with nothing but a soldering iron and zip ties. His neighbor threw out a perfectly good fridge because the ice maker stopped freezing, and he just replaced a relay for like two bucks. @schmidt.amy that paperclip trick reminds me of how he'd fix remote controls by scraping the battery contacts with a screwdriver. It's wild what a little heat and patience can do instead of tossing the whole thing. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good electronics end up in landfills over a single bad part.
