Can we talk about the fight over right to repair laws in my city?

I saw a town hall meeting last week where people argued about new right to repair rules. On one side, some say these laws help us fix things cheaper and keep gadgets out of the trash. On the other, a few shop owners worry it might mean more liability if a repair goes wrong. For example, my local repair spot told me they fear getting sued for using aftermarket parts. But my neighbor fixed his own phone screen thanks to online guides and saved a ton. It feels like a big split between helping customers and protecting business. What do you all think we should support?

Honestly ppl are missing the military angle. A lot of vets in my area learned to fix gear overseas, stuff the manufacturers would never help with. If a soldier can rebuild a radio in the field with spare parts, why can't we fix a tractor or phone at home? These laws could help that skillset transfer back to civilian life. It's not just about cost, it's about keeping that hands-on knowledge alive. You ever see a vet quietly fix something everyone else said was junk?

Wait, they really let soldiers rebuild radios in the field? That's wild. I had no idea they did stuff that intense.

Exactly. My uncle was a mechanic in the army and he's the only reason my old car still runs. Companies hate that kind of skill because it cuts into their bottom line. They'd rather sell you a whole new thing every few years. Letting people fix their own stuff respects that knowledge instead of throwing it away.
