Honestly, my old Weller station just gave out after 8 years of daily use.
Tbh, I was in the middle of a PS5 HDMI port repair and the temp just started dropping no matter what I set it to. Ngl, I had to finish the job with a cheap backup iron from my car kit. What's a good solid replacement that won't break the bank but will last?

Get a Hakko FX-888D, it's the standard for a reason. Mine has been solid for years of console repairs and the temp control is rock steady. You'll spend a bit more than the cheap stuff but it won't die on you mid-job.

Oh man, tessa177 is spot on. I went through two of those cheap stations that just lost heat at the worst times. Finally got the Hakko and it's like a different world. The tip stays exactly where you set it, no more fighting a cold iron while solder turns into a blob. That reliability is everything when you're working on something you care about. What were you fixing when your old one quit?

Yeah, tessa177 is totally right about the Hakko. Switched to an FX-888D after my old station did the same thing during a motherboard recap, just crapped out. The difference is night and day, the heat comes back fast between joints and it just feels solid. Never have that panic moment anymore where you're watching the temp drop while you're holding a chip in place.
