I finally had enough of the 'just replace the board' habit

Last week, a guy brought in a gaming console with a simple power issue. Everyone in the shop said to swap the main board, but I spent an hour tracing the circuit. I found a blown capacitor that cost pennies to replace. Now the thing works like new, and I saved the customer a lot of money. Why are we so quick to throw parts at problems instead of actually fixing them?

Hold on, @emeryb34, did your buddy actually fix his phone like that? Tbh, that sounds kinda risky to me. I heard DIY fixes can brick your phone real easy. What did he even do? Honestly, I'd be too scared to try it myself. Ngl, I'm shocked it worked for him.
