I just spent $80 on a 'universal' desoldering pump that turned out to be a glorified turkey baster.

It couldn't pull a single joint on a basic Nintendo Switch board, so now I'm back to my old $12 one and have a weird kitchen gadget in my toolbox, anyone have a real pump they actually trust?

That "glorified turkey baster" line is too real. I was the same, always thought the cheap pumps were junk and you needed the fancy stuff. Then I burned through two expensive name-brand ones in a year on basic recap jobs. The plastic just gets brittle and fails. My old $10 one from the start of my toolbox? Still going strong, even if I have to click it a few extra times. Sometimes the simple tool is just the right tool.

Right? @spencer199, the cheap ones just don't quit.

It's the over-engineered stuff that always seems to break first.
