Pro tip: a cheap harbor freight heat mat fixed my cold solder joint problem
Honestly, I was fixing a vintage radio in my garage last winter and kept getting bad joints, even with my good iron. Tbh it was freezing out there, maybe 50 degrees. I put the board on a $15 heat mat for a few minutes before working and it made a huge difference. Has anyone else found a simple fix for working in a cold space?

Fifty degrees in the garage? That's not a workspace, that's a walk-in fridge. I'm shocked you could even feel your fingers to hold the iron. My soldering goes to pieces if my coffee gets cold.

Ever wonder if the cold helps wesley_grant33's joints stay stiff for finer detail work? Might be the only upside to that garage.

Hey, I read somewhere that even a desk lamp shining on the board can help a bit.
