Am I the only one who used to spray WD-40 on every sticky door track until an old timer told me that just attracts more dirt?
Last Tuesday on a job in downtown Austin I watched a guy with 30 years in the trade use a silicone-based lubricant on a hotel elevator door track instead and the thing slid smooth as butter, so now I'm throwing out my can and grabbing some Super Lube instead, anyone else swear by a specific brand for door tracks?

The part about "just attracts more dirt" is the part that got me. Nobody talks about how WD-40 is basically a dust magnet once the solvent dries up. I switched to a dry film lubricant a few years back and never looked back. The powder doesn't leave any sticky residue so the track stays clean way longer. Sometimes the old timers are onto something even if they can't explain the science behind it.

Stopped me dead in my tracks! I had no idea about the dust magnet thing. I always thought WD-40 was the magic fix for everything squeaky, you know? But now that you mention it, I've definitely seen that nasty gummy buildup on my garage door tracks before. Guess I've been making a mess without even realizing it all these years!
