Door lock adjustment on an old Otis took me 7 hours

I was working on a 1970s Otis in a building downtown and the door locks kept giving me a false open signal. After swapping relays, checking wiring, and finally pulling the whole door operator apart, I found a worn out roller that was off by maybe 1/16th of an inch. Has anyone else spent way too long chasing a simple mechanical issue that should have been a 20 minute fix?

Isn't it always the tiniest little thing that eats up your whole day? @oscar_hunt61 pretty much nailed it with that "20 minute job" curse.

Ha! @thea246 you're so right. It's always the dumbest little thing too. I spent three hours yesterday trying to fix a squeaky door hinge and now my whole weekend is gone. I swear these tiny jobs are just time vampires in disguise.

Oh yeah that's the classic "it's a 20 minute job until you find out it's a 7 hour job" trick, elevators love doing that to you.
