Tried a 3-in-1 rail oil on a Schindler and regretted it instantly

Last week I ran out of my usual rail oil so I grabbed this 3-in-1 can from the truck. Figured it was all the same stuff, right? Nope - within 2 hours the car was chattering on the guides and the safety chain wouldn't reset. Had to spend my Saturday flushing all the rails with mineral spirits. Has anyone else had a generic lubricant mess up their pickup rollers?

Blew out a set of pickup rollers with WD-40 once. Never again.

Respectfully gotta disagree with you on this one. I've been using WD-40 on pickup rollers for years and never had a blowout. The trick is to spray it on a cloth first and wipe the roller, not spray directly at the mechanism. A little goes a long way, and it actually works better than those expensive specialty cleaners if you ask me. Just make sure you let it dry completely before you put any tape back in the machine.
