A client's reaction made my whole week feel worth it

I had a woman come in on Tuesday for a basic facial. She was quiet at first, but after the steam and extractions, she just opened up. She told me she had been having a hard time at work and this was her first real break in months. When we finished, she looked in the mirror and got a little teary. She said, 'I feel like myself again.' That simple phrase, hearing that I helped someone feel that way, changed my whole outlook. It wasn't about the products I used, it was about the space I provided. It reminded me why I got into this work in the first place. Do you all have a moment like that, a small thing a client said that stuck with you?

Quiet at the start is key, like @stone.thomas hinted at, it lets the client set the pace. Your calm space probably felt like a safe place for her to finally talk. That's the real skill, making someone feel held without saying much.

Funny enough, used to believe the opposite. I thought a good chat showed you were engaged. This experience really turned that around. The quiet wasn't empty, it was full of permission. She needed that room to breathe before the words came. It taught me that listening isn't just waiting to talk.

That's a powerful feeling. Do you think she would have opened up like that if you had been more chatty from the start, or was the quiet part important?
