Spotted a $45 facial treatment at a local spa using expired serums in Portland last month.
The esthetician admitted the products were past their shelf life and said it 'saves money'. Has anyone else run into this at chain spas?

That's sketchy as hell, hope you didn't pay for that garbage.

Bet they're also saving money by using tap water and calling it 'hydrating mist'. Sounds like a great deal if you want a free chemical peel and maybe some mild bacterial acne thrown in. That 'saves money' line is just code for 'we don't care about your face, we care about our profit margin'. Honestly, expired serums probably still work fine if you're trying to look 12 months younger in a past-life kinda way. But for real, that's just lazy business practice - they could at least lie and say they're using 'vintage' formulas or something.
