Hit 50 hand-drawn maps last night and honestly didn't think I'd make it past 10

I counted them up while organizing my folder and was shocked to see 50 fantasy maps since I started in February, each one a different kingdom or region for my D&D campaign, and it made me realize how much faster I'm getting at shading rivers and mountains now - has anyone else noticed a big jump in speed after a certain number of maps?

Funny you mention that @claireg81 because for me it was the opposite. Around map 30 I actually started getting slower, not faster, because I started noticing all the little details I'd been skipping before. Think the speed jump is real for some folks but not everyone takes the same path.

I was just talking to my buddy Mark about this exact thing the other day! He started doing maps for his own game back in March and said around map 30 something just clicked for him with coastlines, like his hand finally figured out how to make them look natural instead of all wobbly. He told me he went from spending four hours on a single regional map to knocking one out in under two, and the quality actually got better not worse. I think it's one of those things where your brain builds up shortcuts without you even noticing until you look back and realize how far you've come.
