Tried drawing mountains with a new brush pen last week and it clicked

I've been hand-drawing maps for my fantasy book for about 3 years now, and mountains have always been my weak point. Last week I picked up a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen on a whim at the art store in town. I figured it would be messy and hard to control, but the ink flow is actually really smooth. I spent an afternoon just practicing different mountain styles - sharp peaks, round hills, even some with snow caps. The brush tip lets me vary the line thickness way easier than my usual fine liners. Has anyone else found a tool that changed how they draw a specific map feature?

Doesn't a brush pen just make everything look sloppy and uneven compared to a steady fine liner?

@kelly_coleman61 Have you ever actually tried one, or just assuming it's messy?
