Vent: The river thing in fantasy maps is driving me nuts

I keep seeing maps where rivers split as they flow downhill, like around the city of Eldoria in a lot of posted work. In real geography, rivers almost always merge, not split, outside of deltas. It matters because it breaks the world's logic for me. Am I being too picky, or should we try harder to get the basics right?

The Eldoria split is the classic example. I just sketch one main river and have the smaller ones feed into it. It fixes the map logic without being hard to do.

That geology video is right for our world. But fantasy maps show magic lands. What if a god cut the river in two with a sword? Or an old spell keeps the waters divided. The land itself might be alive and break normal rules. Logic gets bent when the ground is dreaming.

I saw a geology video that called those fantasy river splits impossible.
