Bought a $40 hoof tester from a random brand on Amazon, figured it'd be junk

I needed a new hoof tester quick after mine snapped on a draft horse last Tuesday, so I grabbed some off-brand one with 4 stars and free shipping. First few horses I was sure it was bending or the pressure was way off, but then I tested it against a buddy's $200 pair and the readings matched within 2 pounds. Has anyone else had a cheap tool surprise them or am I just lucky so far?

Brought my cheap amazon hoof tester over to my buddies place last month, he's got the high end stuff from the tack store. He laughed at it, called it a toy. Then we spent an hour testing it on his horses and comparing numbers, and mine was within 1 to 3 pounds on every single reading. He got real quiet after that, especially when I told him what I paid. He ended up ordering three of them for his barn crew since they keep losing or breaking the expensive ones. I figure if it works it works, you know?

Did you ever test it on a foundered horse like @elizabetht56 or just the sound ones?
