My boss told me to use a wider shoe on a quarter crack and I was wrong

He said to put a size 2 on a horse with a bad quarter crack, but after three weeks the crack got worse. I switched back to a size 1 and added a clip, and the hoof started to grow out right. Has anyone else had a client push for a bigger shoe that just made a problem worse?

Man, @caseys52 is right, reminds me of a time a client insisted on a bar shoe for a simple abscess.

Ugh, bigger shoes can make cracks spread faster!

I read a study from a university engineering department that looked at this. They found a size 12 shoe puts about 90% more pressure on a crack than a size 8. It's not just the weight, it's how the force is spread out. A bigger sole can bridge a crack and make the whole weak section flex at once. That extra stress can definitely speed up the damage in just a few steps.
