Nicked a tendon sheath on a tough front hoof last Tuesday
Had a mare that wouldn't stand still while I was trying to trim her and my knife slipped right into the white line, ending in a vet bill for $350 and a week of stall rest, has anyone else had a close call with a dangerous cut like that?

Yeah that reminds me of the time my farrier nicked himself and bled all over my driveway.

Used to be one of those "wrap it and see what happens" people myself lol. Had a gelding with a similar looking cut a few years back, thought it was nothing serious so I just cleaned it and threw a bandage on. Three days later that leg looked like a balloon and the vet said if I'd waited even one more day it would've been a full blown infection in the tendon sheath. That $350 bill seems steep but honestly it's cheap compared to what a serious tendon infection costs to fix. The stall rest part sucks but after seeing what can happen I'd rather be safe than sorry with anything near the white line.

$350 sounds about right for a vet visit for something that shallow. I've seen people treat those with just a clean bandage and maybe some banamine for a day or two. Unless the tendon sheath was actually nicked and not just close to it, a week of stall rest seems like overkill. Might want to get a second opinion next time if you're worried about the cost. Every horse gets a little cut or scrape eventually, that's just part of having them.
