PSA: Cheap rasps will wreck your hands after a week

I bought three $15 rasps from a farm supply store last month thinking I was saving money. By day 7 my right hand was so sore I couldn't grip a hoof for two days. Has anyone else had a bad run with budget tools like that?

Oh come on, is it really that bad? I've used $10 rasps for years and my hands are fine. @barnes.brian has a point, you might be gripping too hard or taking too big of strokes.

You're saying they "wrecked your hands after a week" and I get that. But honestly, I think the issue might not be the price tag. Cheap rasps can still work fine if you know how to use them. I've had a $10 rasp last me months because I take lighter strokes and let the tool do the work instead of forcing it. Maybe try changing your technique before you write off all budget rasps for good.
