Thought those new composite pads were just a gimmick until I saw a draft horse go from a sore foot to a clean stride in under a month.
I was convinced they'd just crumble under real work, but after seeing the results on a 2,000-pound Percheron with a quarter crack, I'm debating if we're too quick to dismiss new materials versus sticking with what we know always works.

Tried composites on a foundered mare last year and she's still sound.

Remember scoffing at those new boots for my own horse. Saw the same thing with a big plow horse at a friend's farm. The old ways are good, but holding on too tight just means we miss out on real help for the animals. Sometimes you have to see it work to believe it. That quarter crack healing up fast changed my whole view.

Oh come on, is it really that big of a deal? I mean boots are boots, right? I've seen plenty of horses go lame in the fancy new stuff just as fast as the old. Quarter cracks can heal up on their own too, not like the boots are the only reason. And that foundered mare, sure she's still walking but could be anything - maybe she just got lucky or the owner changed her feed. I just don't get why everyone acts like this is some kind of revolution. It's a boot, not a miracle cure.
