I bought a roll of burlap for $20 to add texture to a skirt and it completely changed the drape.

I was going for a rustic look for a fall collection piece, but the rough weave made the fabric so stiff it wouldn't flow at all. I ended up having to cut it on the bias and line it with a super thin silk, which actually created this amazing structured-yet-soft shape I never planned. Has anyone else had a cheap material totally flip the script on a design like that?

Yeah, I see that a lot. The best stuff often comes from unplanned moments.
