TIL about 'fabric blocking' from a shop owner in Seattle
Last week I was in a small fabric store in Seattle called Bolt, and the owner showed me how she 'blocks' her wool pieces before cutting. She pins them to a big board, mists them, and lets them dry for 24 hours to set the shape. I'd never heard of this step to prevent warping. Has anyone else used this method for tailored pieces?

Sounds like a lot of work for a piece of cloth.

Wait, a piece of cloth? That's a whole tapestry. They weave in actual gold thread.

ross.river, you ever actually see one of those tapestries up close? The gold thread alone takes months to get right, not to mention all the tiny stitches for the pictures. Why would someone drop that much time and money on a cloth that's basically just gonna hang on a wall? Is there some kind of secret meaning behind it that makes it worth the hassle?
