Tried a new fabric for a jacket design after my friend in Portland suggested it

I made two versions of the same bomber jacket pattern, one with a standard cotton twill and the other with a recycled nylon blend. The nylon one held its shape way better after a few weeks of wear and didn't wrinkle at all. Has anyone else found a specific fabric that just works better than what they were using before?

My old raincoat from a trip to Seattle was made of some kind of tech canvas, maybe with polyester. That thing looked brand new for three years straight, no matter how much I stuffed it in a backpack. It completely changed how I shop for coats now. I used to just grab whatever looked good, but that one piece taught me fabric really is the whole game.

That point about recycled nylon holding its shape is dead on. I read a whole thread on a sewing blog about how synthetic blends just behave differently for structured pieces. The author kept saying natural fibers aren't always the automatic best choice, especially for outerwear. Your test with the two jackets proves it. Cotton twill can go limp, but that nylon mix keeps the crisp look. Makes me want to dig through my own fabric stash and rethink some plans.
