Warning: The new 'utility' pants at the Portland art museum gift shop are a mess
I was there last weekend and they had these pants with, like, 12 pockets but the fabric was this stiff canvas that bunched up weird at the knees. It felt like the designer just threw every possible feature at them without thinking about how a person would actually move in them. Has anyone else seen a trend where function completely wrecks the form?

My friend Sam bought a pair of those exact pants for a hiking trip. He said the stiff fabric @elizabeth_gonzalez mentioned tore up his thighs after five miles because it wouldn't bend right. He came home with raw skin and pants that still looked brand new, which felt like a bad joke. All those pockets were useless when the main material fought against him the whole time.

pants that still looked brand new" is honestly the worst part of that story. Like they didn't even break in at all after five miles? That's rough. Did Sam ever try washing them a few times to soften them up, or did he just swear off the whole brand after that hike?
