Got talked into a $80 post hole digger attachment and it was a total bust
I was at the rental place last month picking up a auger for a big job and the guy talked me into buying this fancy post hole digger attachment for my skid steer. It was $80 and I figured hey it might save me time on smaller projects. First hole I tried it on hit a rock and bent the whole shaft. Spent more time grinding the weld off and returning it than I did actually digging. Has anyone else gotten burned by those cheap auger attachments from rental shops?

Bent the whole shaft on the first hole? That is absolutely wild. $80 might feel like a lot but for something that snaps that fast it might as well have been a toy from the dollar store. I always figured those attachments from rental places were just repackaged junk they couldn't sell otherwise. Your story is making me glad I never caved and bought one of those. Sounds like you got exactly what you paid for, which is nothing. Hopefully you got your money back without too much of a hassle.

45 minutes into using a brand new auger bit and it's already scrap. That's not bad luck, that's just how cheap tools work these days. It's the same thing with everything from garden hoses to kitchen gadgets. They make "value" stuff that barely holds together and call it a deal. I'd rather spend $150 on something that lasts 10 years than $80 on something that dies in one afternoon.
