My uncle told me to never use a post driver on cedar, said it was a waste of money. He was dead wrong.

No, @lewis.charlie, I gotta side with your uncle on this one. Cedar's just too soft and brittle for a post driver, you're asking for cracked posts and wasted time.

Huh. I read somewhere that cedar splits way too easy for that. Your uncle might have had a point.

Guess he never tried it with a sharp bit and a steady hand. Cedar can handle it just fine if you know what you're doing. My fence line is proof, not a single split post. Maybe his advice came from a bad experience with a blunt tool. Sounds like user error, not a wood problem.
