Unpopular opinion: A client in Denver told me my 6-foot cedar fence looked 'too perfect' and lacked character, so now I sometimes leave a few knots and slight color variations in the boards on purpose.

Has anyone else had a customer ask for something less than perfect that actually made the final product look better?

Ever have someone ask for a rougher edge on a table? Tbh, that request got me to try a hand-scraped finish once and it looked way more interesting than a machine sanded top. Sometimes the little flaws are what make a piece feel real.

What's next, asking for a crooked fence post to really sell the vibe?
