My fermenting cabbage exploded all over the fridge

I put a batch of sauerkraut in too tight a jar. After two days, the pressure built up and the lid popped off. Kraut juice dripped down every shelf. Guess I need to check my seals more often.

Remembered my friend's kimchi blowing up in her pantry... lid shot off like a rocket and painted the ceiling with chili paste and cabbage shreds. Took her ages to scrub the sticky red drips off the walls, and her whole house smelled like garlic for a week.

Saw a batch of sauerkraut blow its lid once, just like @robin836 described. The force cracked the glass jar and left a ring of brine and shredded cabbage on every kitchen cabinet. That sour, funky smell got into the curtains and never really left.
