My neighbor called me out on using the wrong drill bit for my deck screws
He stopped by while I was fixing a loose board and told me I was stripping all the heads using a Phillips bit on those square drive screws. Has anyone else been making this mistake and just not realizing it?

That's hilarious because my neighbor probably saved you from becoming me. I spent a whole afternoon stripping out about 20 screws on a bench rebuild before my buddy walked over and pointed out I was using a Torx bit on Philips heads. Felt like a real genius when the right bit grabbed and everything actually tightened down. Deck screws are brutal for that because they look similar from far away but punish you up close.

Nah, I actually think deck screws are easier to tell apart if you just look close.
