Found an old sewing machine in my grandma's attic that clunked like crazy.
I hauled this 1950s Singer up from the basement last week and it would barely turn the wheel. After some digging online I tried dabbing a little 3-in-1 oil on the moving parts and letting it sit for an hour. Anyone got a trick for getting the bobbin case to stop jamming on these old models?

Man that clunking is probably old dried grease locking the gears up not the oil.

Yeah that's a solid point. I totally forgot about the old grease factor, those things cake up over time and make a mess of the gears. Might be worth pulling the cover and scraping it out before you mess with the oil.

So you're saying the real problem is just a 20 year old grease cake throwing a tantrum in there? That's almost worse than bad oil cause now I gotta scrape out a science experiment instead of just pouring stuff in. Might as well grab a spatula and some elbow grease while you're at it.
