Realized I was putting my toaster back together with the screws too loose for years
I kept wondering why my toaster popped up weak after fixing it like 4 times. Then my neighbor watched me reassemble it and pointed out I was leaving the screws finger tight so I wouldn't strip them. He said tighten them until they just bite and now my toast comes out perfect. Anyone else been over-careful with screws and messed up a repair?

Hold up, I'm gonna push back a little here! I've been fixing my own small appliances for years and I always tighten screws until they're snug but not torqued down like a lug nut. A toaster has thin metal brackets that can warp or bend if you crank too hard, which would mess up the alignment way worse than a slightly loose screw. Plus those screws are tiny and strip easy if you overdo it, then you're really stuck. I'd rather have a toaster that pops a little weak than one where I break a mounting tab and have to rig it up with zip ties. Your neighbor's advice worked for you but I bet there's plenty of people out there who've wrecked their toaster by overtightening and cracking the plastic housing.

Wait, finger tight on a toaster? That's wild, I always crank mine down until they feel solid. I had no idea there was a happy medium between stripped and floppy toast!
Honestly, that explains so much about why my old toaster's settings never seemed to work right either. Probably too much loose hardware causing inconsistent heat or something technical like that.
