My uncle told me to just throw out my old Sega Genesis...

He said it was a lost cause after the video went all fuzzy. I looked online and a guy on a forum said to clean the cartridge slot with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol... did that three times and now it works perfect. I'm so glad I didn't listen to my uncle and just toss it. Has anyone else fixed a Genesis this way, or was I just lucky?

Ever try that trick on an old NES? I had one that would only work if you shoved the cartridge down and then pulled it back up just a hair. Felt like you needed a secret handshake to play Mario.

My Genesis has been running clean for two years after that exact fix, so it's definitely not just luck.

Honestly think your uncle had a point. That cleaning trick is a total band-aid fix and the fuzzy video will probably come back in a month. Those old cartridge slots wear out for good and no amount of rubbing alcohol changes that. You just got lucky it worked this time.
