Spent 4 hours trying to fix a Sega Genesis that just needed a new fuse

My old Genesis Model 2 was totally dead, no power light at all. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned the board with isopropyl alcohol, and even reflowed some solder joints on the power input. After all that, I finally checked the tiny fuse near the power jack with my multimeter and it was blown. Replaced it with a new 1.5A fuse from my parts bin and it fired right up. Has anyone else wasted a ton of time on a simple fuse before checking it first?

Honestly, isn't that time spent learning the whole system, though?

Yeah, that's the part I'm really good at... learning how everything works right up until I actually have to use it.

Whoa, wait. Are you telling me you've literally got the theoretical part down cold but then just... freeze up when it's time to actually do it? That's wild to me, because I feel like with painting, you can watch a million videos on cutting in a perfect edge, but the first time you try it on a real wall you've got paint dripping down your elbow. It's like studying for a test by just reading the textbook and never doing the practice problems, you know? The whole point of learning the system is to use it, right? That's a huge gap to be missing.
