Found a weird trick for keeping transitions level on concrete

I was fighting with a uneven door threshold in Denver last Tuesday and just tried shimming with roofing felt instead of plastic spacers, and it actually held flat after the glue dried - has anyone else tried something random that actually worked better?

Whoa, hold up - roofing felt? As in the actual sticky black tar paper stuff? That's wild. I've been using those cheap plastic shims for years and they always slip out on me when the glue starts tacking up. I gotta ask, did you have to wait for the felt to dry out a bit before it held tight, or did it just grab immediately?

Tar paper stuff" is exactly it, @jade32, and I read somewhere it actually grips better once the glue starts going tacky.
