Just aced my first mosaic tile border, but the grout color has me stumped.

After watching tons of videos, I finally got the pattern right on a kitchen backsplash. The tiles look perfect, but the grout I picked seems off in certain light. How do you guys choose grout that matches without seeing it in person?

Grab a few of those small sample tubes from the hardware store. Smear them on a spare tile and check it at different times of day. The color changes way more than you'd expect under cabinet lights vs sunlight.

Lighting is such a tricky thing to get right. @aaron384 has the best advice with those sample tubes, it really shows you the wild differences.

Honestly it's crazy how much our eyes just adjust and lie to us. I bought this gray paint once that looked perfect in the store, but in my kitchen it turned straight up purple under the LED strips. Tbh it makes you realize how much of the world we see is just a trick of the light, not the real color of things. We're all just walking around in different lighting setups all day, no wonder people argue about colors.
