Serious question, why do so many florists swear by floral foam?

I mean, everyone says floral foam is a must for bouquets, but I've always had issues with it. My flowers would die faster, and I felt bad about the trash. So I tried using chicken wire and tape instead, and it held stems well. Now my bouquets last longer and I skip the messy foam. Maybe it's just me, but I think we should change this habit.

Honestly I get why people move away from it, but for some designs foam is just the right tool. Trying to do a tall, dense centerpiece with just chicken wire can be a real fight, and foam holds stems at wild angles you can't get otherwise. It's a pain and not green, but for quick event work or certain shapes, it's still the fastest way to get a stable result. I just see it as a sometimes tool, not an always one.

Yeah, skipping the messy foam changed everything for me too.
