Wall mounting my floral tools cleared my countertops for good

Lately, I've noticed other florists hanging their shears and knives on walls. I was tired of cluttered surfaces in my home studio. Last weekend, I installed some pegboard above my work table. Now everything is within reach but off the counter. It's made arranging flowers so much easier.

Pegboard can work, but I've seen shears rust when hung up wet... you really need to dry them first or they'll get spots. A magnetic strip might be better since it keeps the blades open to air dry. Just something to think about if you're dealing with fresh cuts all day. Some florists I know had that issue until they changed their setup. It's a small thing, but it can save your tools in the long run.

My grandpa kept his pruning shears on a magnetic strip in his Michigan shed for thirty years, and they never had a single rust spot. He swore by wiping them with an oily rag first, which @the_keith kind of hints at with the drying thing. That old strip held everything from trowels to weird, curved grafting knives. Humidity in there was awful, but the air flow around the blades really did the trick. I still use his setup in my own garage.

Hey @the_keith, what if room humidity still causes rust even with open blades?
