Warning: My homemade flower drying rack snapped and dropped everything

I put it together with some spare boards from a landscaping job. The weight of the hydrangeas was too much for the joints I used. What's a good way to reinforce a wooden rack for heavy blooms?

My first drying rack used pine boards and it sagged after a week. Adding more screws or glue feels like a temporary fix, doesn't it. Why not skip reinforcing those weak joints and just use metal corner braces instead. They handle heavy blooms like hydrangeas without stressing the wood. You can pick them up for a few dollars and they actually solve the problem.

Switched to oak, no sag ever.

I always thought wood choice was overrated until my maple rack started bowing last season. Those metal braces Mary mentioned are a game changer, way better than my old glue and clamp routine.
