A guy at the gas station in Boise said my F-150 was too clean to be a real work truck.

He was filling up his old, beat-up '86 F-250 and gave me a hard time about my '22 having a clean bed. Said a real truck should show its miles. I argued that taking care of your gear doesn't mean you don't use it hard. Where do you stand on the 'clean truck' debate?

Dude's gatekeeping trucks now? It's just a vehicle, not a personality test.

Ugh, that guy has a point though. A spotless truck bed just looks like a fancy toy, not a tool you actually use. There's a certain honesty in dents and scratches, they tell the story of the work you do. Keeping it perfect feels like you're scared to really use it for its purpose. My truck's wear is a badge of honor, it shows I earn my living with it. A clean truck is just for show.

@aaron384 is right, gatekeeping truck cleaniness is just dumb.
