My 2005 F-150 just rolled over 300,000 miles on the original engine

I always figured I'd need a rebuild or a new truck by 250k, but I've just kept up with basic oil changes and used good filters. The odometer hit that big number yesterday on my way home from work, and the old 5.4 Triton is still running smooth. What's the highest mileage you've seen on one of these motors without a major rebuild?

Hold up, I see it a little different. That 5.4 is known for spitting out spark plugs and snapping timing chain guides way before 300k, even with good oil. Just depends if you got lucky or if your truck is a time bomb waiting to go.

My buddy's work truck is an 04 with the same 5.4 and it's at 340k on the original motor. I mean, he's religious about the oil changes, like every 5k with full synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. He did have to do the spark plugs around 100k, which was a whole thing, but no rebuild. It just keeps going. I guess they really can last if you just stick to the basics and don't skip maintenance.
