My old PS2 memory card just gave up the ghost after twenty years
I was trying to show my nephew some of my old saves from a game called 'Whiplash' on the PS2, you know, the one where you play as a weasel and a rabbit chained together escaping a testing lab? Totally weird game. I plugged in my old 8MB Sony card and the console just wouldn't see it. All those hours of progress, gone in a second. I tried cleaning the contacts with some isopropyl alcohol, even tried it in a different PS2 I have in the garage, but no luck. The thing is just dead. It's a weird feeling, like a little piece of my gaming past just broke. Has anyone else had a memory card fail this late in the game, and is there any way to get the data back, or is it a lost cause?

Memory cards die, but those saves live on in your stories.

Honestly, if the contacts are clean and a second console won't read it, that data is probably just gone for good. It's a real bummer when hardware finally quits like that.
