Unpopular opinion: The 2003 game 'Whacked!' for the original Xbox had a better party mode than most people remember.

After playing it again last weekend, I realized its fast-paced, chaotic mini-games still hold up better than a lot of modern stuff, has anyone else tried going back to it?

Oh man, the sound design in that game was half the fun. The announcer yelling nonsense, the cartoonish smack when you hit someone, it all added to the chaos. Modern games feel so polished they lose that weird, janky charm. Whacked! felt like playing a messed-up Saturday morning cartoon.

My aging ears still perk up every time I hear that announcer shout "Boomshakalaka!" from the old NBA Jam games. Whacked! had a similar vibe where the sound guys clearly just hit record and let the voice actor go wild. I'd probably sound like a grumpy grandpa if I tried to imitate those lines now.

What made the announcer lines so good, was it the writing or the delivery? That weird energy is hard to capture on purpose.
