Just realized I was totally wrong about the found family trope in shows
I used to think it was just a cheesy way to end a story, but watching the crew on The Expanse stick together through the whole series changed my mind. Seeing them choose each other over and over, like when Naomi risked everything to get back to the Rocinante, made it feel real. What's a show where the found family bond actually surprised you?
Wait, are you saying they were a mess or that they were a mess in a way that actually worked? Because I think that's the point. Holden's crew was a bunch of misfits thrown together by circumstance - a militant engineer, a former prostitute turned pilot, a corporate diplomat who was in way over her head, and a guy who couldn't stop trying to be the hero. Yeah, they bickered and nearly killed each other sometimes, but that tension is what made them survive things like the Eros incident and the Ring. You don't get that kind of loyalty from a polished, professional team.
