PSA: My book club's 'found family' movie night got hijacked by a stray cat

We were watching The Goonies, right at the part where the kids all swear on the treasure map, when this huge orange cat just walked in my open patio door. He jumped on the couch, sat between two of my friends, and started purring like a motor. We paused the movie for like 20 minutes trying to figure out whose cat it was, but he had no collar. He just stayed for the whole film, watching with us. Now he shows up every Friday, and we've started calling him Data. Has anyone else had a random animal just decide to join their friend group?

Wait, you didn't know that's a Star Trek name?

My orange tabby Data has ignored that name for three years straight. He only comes if you shake the treat bag or make a specific clicking sound with your tongue. Naming pets after characters is a fun idea until you're yelling "Data, no!" across the yard and your neighbors think you've lost it. I keep a list of dumb nicknames that actually work, like "Buddy" or "Captain Fluff.
