Watching a certain crew's goodbye scene in a coffee shop made me feel things

I was at the local library catching up on the show 'Leverage', specifically the season 2 finale where the team says goodbye in that diner. Seeing them, a bunch of former strangers, choose each other over going their separate ways hit me way harder than I expected. Does a specific found family 'goodbye that isn't' scene from any show or book just wreck you every time?

My buddy Dave called me last week, he was rewatching the last season of The Good Place. He got to the scene on the bridge where they all walk through the final door. He said he had to pause it for like twenty minutes because he was just sitting there crying, thinking about his old college roommates he never sees anymore. It hit him that way because it wasn't a sad goodbye, it was a peaceful thank you for the time they had. He said it felt like losing his own crew all over again.

That finale really nails the quiet ache of growing apart from people. I had a similar thing happen with an old song that came on shuffle last month. Just sat in my car feeling all kinds of ways about friends who are basically strangers now.

Know what you mean about that ache. I think @andrew916's buddy got it right though, it's more about being thankful for the time you had. Still hurts, but in a softer way.
