Found a box of old VHS tapes from a closed video store in Omaha, had to pick between digitizing them or just watching

I got about 30 tapes from a thrift store that used to be a rental place. The choice was to spend the time and money to digitize them all, or just hook up an old VCR and watch them as-is. I picked watching them first, which was the right call. Out of the 30, maybe 5 had anything cool on them, like local commercials and a weird home movie of a 1998 parade. If I'd digitized them all first, I would have wasted hours on blank tapes and recorded TV. Has anyone else found it's better to screen stuff before you commit to saving it?

Oh man, that's such a good point. I do the same thing with old photos, I'll look through the whole box before I even think about scanning. Saves so much time on the junk.

A weird home movie of a 1998 parade is the exact treasure I hope to find.

Sometimes the weirdest tapes have the best stories, right?
